Frustrating, isn’t it? Unsatisfying, indeed, that despite your effort to go to work and meet all your deadlines, it’s still not enough because you’ve only been busy with work but not productive after all. According to  Margarita Tartakovsky, M.S., While more hours in the day might be nice, it’s not necessarily lack of time that stops us from completing tasks and accomplishing our goals.”

Getting things done can be demanding and will always get on our nerves. It requires commitment and perseverance to accomplish tasks with efficacy and being right on time. Becoming productive at work is a marker of a truly committed employee and finds satisfaction on accomplished task. However, for someone who has been struggling on how to maximize his working hours and has always been busy at work but with no accomplished tasks, productivity in work is a significant concern that should be dealt with accordingly.

Job retention is what every employee aims to achieve, however, holding on to your work position is determined by specific factors. Being productive in work is one of the critical elements to determine if you can deliver what is being required or even beyond than what you are capable of. If you think you are an unproductive employee, it’s about time to bring out the change in you and find your motivation to become productive in work. Goal-setting in psychology is an essential tool for self-motivation and self-drivenness – both at personal and professional levels,” according to Madhuleena Roy Chowdhury, BA, certified psychiatric counsellor.

Most of the employees would define their working scheme as multi-tasker, and there is nothing wrong with this, as long as you make sure that you also have a laser-like focus. However, doing multi-tasking requires proper mind conditioning and equal focus on each task that you do, or else you have only been busy but not productive after all.

Proper delegation of work and asking for help is not erroneous at all. This only means that you are open for communication and you have established trust towards your workmates that you can be working with each other collaboratively. The more hands-on the job, the faster the task can be completed. Be forewarned though that proper delegation should be observed. This means that you are assigning tasks to the right and capable person to minimize errors and repetition of work.

Make a To-Do List

Creating a To-Do list is a helpful way of identifying an essential task to do first. By doing so, a priority level of each task is scheduled, and call to action is in place. This will also help you improve the discipline of timekeeping as well as tracking your efficacy with every accomplished task.

Time-Outs Are Best

Taking a breather if you feel like the task is already consuming your whole being is advisable. When you take a break, it regenerates your body so that you won’t feel sleepy while working. Shake off the stress and pressure of deadlines by leaving your desk and take a short walk outside your office.

Limit Social Media Connection

Detaching from the distraction is the best way to maintain your focus. Social media platforms and electronic devices are significant sources of robbing off your productivity in the office space. Scanning through several pages and commenting on friends’ posts can take most of your time without realizing that an hour has already passed and still you have finish one task. “First, if someone is procrastinating on a task, setting a timer and just working on that task for a set amount of time can help them make progress and ensure that it will not be too painful to work on that particular task,” said Laura Rolands, M.S.

Lastly, and most importantly, keeping a positive outlook on life makes work more manageable and productive. If you find joy and satisfaction in your work, there is no reason for you to become unproductive. If you love what you are doing, you will not even feel like working. Find enjoyment, satisfaction and maximize your potential as an employee and in return, all your hard work shall pay off.
